Everyone, it seems, has an opinion on the feud over the Michelangelo’s Censorship Fury in Florida (come on, is that art or porn?). The controversy even earned a spot on the American late-night satirical comedy show, Saturday Night Live (SNL), the weekend that featured Florentine landmark “David” talking about parents who allegedly complained about the brawny Renaissance masterpiece.
“These parents are ignorant prudes…I’m the biggest sculpture in the world and I’m a very pretty boy,” exclaimed David on the SNL sketch, which went on to proclaim, “I’m proud of my little penis. shiny and my pubic stone. I have nothing to hide.”
The living artwork asserted that “all the best in art is the nude. Me, naked… Venus de Milo, naked…. Statue of Liberty, show feet. The comedic scene ultimately focuses on the size of David’s infamous “appendix”, with the interviewer pointing out that “it’s a bit small”.
David’s response? “Well, most people see it from below.”
