Next week, TEFAF New York returns to the Park Avenue Armory showcasing museum-quality artwork and artifacts ranging from fine art and jewelry to antiques and significant design. Presented by the European Fine Arts Foundation (TEFAF), the fair will welcome a prestigious list of 91 galleries and dealers, with 13 new exhibitors. Now in its eighth edition, the fair will run from May 12-16, 2023, alongside a new edition of TEFAF Online, which will highlight a selection of masterpieces on display at the fair’s physical location. at the Armory. Also, the digital fair website stories will continue to provide insightful content alongside other TEFAF community online programs.
While during the fair TEFAF Maastricht-founded in 1988 and renowned for bringing together art from an incredible range of collecting categories – has long been an annual bastion of the global art calendar, TEFAF New York’s conciseness and caliber have earned it equal esteem . Largely linked by proximity to the history of art, the New York fair emphasizes modern and contemporary art, punctuated by design, ethnographic and ancient art, photography and jewelry.
TEFAF New York offers an invaluable opportunity for everyone – from avid collectors to art lovers, designers to curators – to explore, discover and learn about a wide range of works through a variety of mediums and of time periods in one place, with the juxtaposition of individual presentations eliciting stimulating dialogues and speeches. While everything on show won’t be known until opening day, the first look at TEFAF New York promises it will be a standout iteration of the fair.
Among the highlights of the next edition of the show are: Art Torabuoni showcase of iconic embroidery work by landmark Italian artist Alghiero Boetti, and Peter Freeman, Inc. presenting Bruce Nauman’s Evidence for the hand circle (1996), emblematic of the work of the American artist. A drawing by the modern master Egon Schiele, Seated Male Nude (Self-Portrait) (1917), will be presented with a new exhibitor Richard Nagy SA. Another new exhibitor, the Galerie Nathalie Obadia will present the works of the abstract expressionist painter Shirley Jaffe Untitled (1965). Art of the 21st Century includes 2016 by Hanne Friis Trophy shown by Galerie Maria Wettergren, and blurring the line between sculpture and design, Jorge Pardo’s bar installation from 2005 will be presented with Petzel Gallery. Accented by jewelry, like a pair of diamond leaf pattern earrings by Hemmerle, and furnishings like an exquisite coffee table by Gio Ponti from ca. 1951 presented by Geoffrey Diner Gallery, TEFAF New York will provide a broad yet balanced fair experience for visitors.
