This year International Exhibition of Ceramic Art (ICAF) at the Gardiner Museum explores the role of clay as a mediator between human and non-human, blurring the lines with its life-giving properties, its ability to record and retain human memory, and its ability to connect us to the earth.

The exhibition presents fifty recent works by a dozen artists and four galleries: Crystal Morey, Courtney Leonard, David R. Harper, Itō Tadashi, Jess Riva Cooper, Judy Chartrand, Manuel Mathieu, Ramekon O’Arwisters , Sakiyama Takayuki, Stephanie Hanes, Susan Collett, Yoshikawa Masamichi, Ferrin Contemporary, Galerie Hugues Charbonneau, Joan B Mirviss LTD and Patricia Sweetow Gallery.
Towards future bodies Symposium
The ICAF also includes a symposium, Towards future bodiesJune 9 and 10. Supported by the Raphael Yu Center for Canadian Ceramics and presented in collaboration with AB Project — an alternative conceptual ceramics exhibition and education space located in Los Angeles — the symposium brings together artists, scholars, and other voices to explore the limits of our species and our connection to other life forms as expressed through clay.

Chief Curator Sequoia Miller will be joined by exhibiting artist Manuel Mathieu for an online conversation about his practice. Tickets are “pay what you can”. - Main presentation by Nicole Seisler (June 9)
Nicole Seisler is a Los Angeles-based ceramic, sculpture and installation artist whose practice includes making, education and curation. She has exhibited extensively in museums ranging from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston to the Craft Contemporary in Los Angeles.
The International Ceramic Art Fair takes place June 8-18 at the Gardiner Museum in Toronto.
