Actor Johnny Depp is making as many waves in the art world as he is in the film industry. Depp recently announced “the launch of a limited edition sale of his recently revealed self-portrait Five (2023), conceived as he entered the fifth year of a difficult time in his life,” reads a concise press release. “If the piece resonates with even one person, this art has a purpose,” Depp believes.
The self-portrait, Depp’s first, will be sold in a limited-time edition from July 20 for just 13 days (“a significant number for the artist”) and priced at £1,950. In a very generous gesture, $200 from every sale will go directly to Mental Health America, a nonprofit community charity focused on mental health issues. Fans will be delighted to see that each piece – based on a photograph taken for Christian Dior Parfums in 2015 – is signed by Depp and hand-stamped with “Johnny’s personal mark of authenticity”.
The self-portrait is available from Castle Fine Art, a subsidiary of the Washington Green Fine Art distribution group, which also carries works by Bob Dylan, Billy Conolly and Marvel. Earlier this year Depp created a series of serigraphs which earned him at least £4.5million.
