Turkish fashion designer Erdem Moralıoğlu turned to an unlikely source for his latest collection: museum curators from some of the UK’s most illustrious museums. THE FinancialTimes describes how Moralıoğlu, whose star clients include the Princess of Wales and Julianne Moore, visited the curatorial departments of the National Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum and Tate Britain, seeking inspiration for his spring collection/ summer 2023. The FT pieces describes how Moralıoğlu was inspired by his findings – “facsimiles of the labels used by restorers to track and classify works of art appeared sewn on some hems. And all the vellums and protective sheets became veils of glass organza draped over dresses adorned with crystals and sequins. Moralıoğlu, born in Canada, was particularly fascinated by the work of Larry Keith at the National Gallery, which was busy restoring a 16th-century work by Parmigianino during the fashion chief’s first visit in April last year. “I love museums. There is just something in the walls of this kind of extraordinary places,” Moralıoğlu says, thinking about the power of these wonderful deposits.
