As a young man, gallerist Timothy Taylor was treated for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer that affects the lymphatic system. Now he is supporting the London NHS hospital where he was treated, the Royal Marsden, by donating all proceeds from his gallery’s summer exhibition.
Bird’s song (from today until August 12) features over 15 works by artists including Paula Rego, Yinka Shonibare CBE and Rachel Whiteread. The title is inspired by the book of the same name by Sebastian Faulks, “evoking a symbol of hope and resilience in the face of mortality”.
“My family has supported Royal Marsden’s cutting-edge research efforts since my own experience with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma,” Taylor said in a statement. “I’ve seen their passion firsthand, and I thank each participating artist for their generosity in supporting this cause. Bird’s song embodies the joy that art can bring even in the most difficult circumstances.
Based in Kensington & Chelsea, the Royal Marsden was the world’s first hospital dedicated to the study and treatment of cancer.
