What do you want to know: In collaboration with Janet Rady Fine Art, gallery based in Beirut Artscoops present “Lebanon | Untitled», an exhibition of more than 50 works by 33 different Lebanese artists at Cromwell Place in London. From June 7 to 11, 2023, the exhibition will present a range of mediums, from painting and sculpture to experimental pieces in mixed media, highlighting the rich and diverse work of Lebanese artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Artscoops has positioned itself as a leader in the art of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and the next show is part of the line-up of the June “Middle East” organized moments of Cromwell Place. « Lebanon | Untitled” is also significant because it is Artscoops’ first exhibition outside of Lebanon.

Why we love it: Artscoops « Lebanon | The “Untitled” exhibition presents a significant opportunity for viewers to experience a wide range of contemporary Lebanese art outside of Lebanon. Important artists ranging from Zena Assi to Nadia Saikali will be exhibited, as well as emerging art creators. The exploration of influential developments and movements in painting can be traced through the exhibition. For example, the 1967 Untitled Samia Osseiran Junblatt’s painting shows a unique synthesis of color field painting and lyrical abstraction. Elsewhere, at Lana Khayat Wild region (2022) shows an ongoing commitment from the current generation of artists who engage with and advance the tradition of abstract painting. Including works of sculpture, such as that of Alfred Basbous Monumental (2004), which merges the clean lines of modernism but with a decidedly contemporary figurative element, the exhibition as a whole bears witness to both the history and trajectory of Lebanese art.

According to the Gallery: “We knew it was essential to let the art speak for itself rather than risk establishing a pre-determined narrative with the audience,” explained Artscoops co-founder Raya Mamarbachi, Knowing that Janet Rady, who has supported Artscoops since our launch in 2015, is joining us on this exciting next leg of our journey to the UK, makes this show even more special.

Meanwhile, Artscoops co-founder May Mamarbachi said she was delighted that Lebanese artists had the opportunity to showcase their talent on a major platform and boost their reach in the UK, which is home to a large Lebanese diaspora. and a significant number of international collectors. “Lebanon has a thriving contemporary art scene, built on a rich artistic heritage, which deserves the level of international recognition our exhibition will provide,” agreed Raya. “I am incredibly proud of this exciting group of Lebanese artists and, at the same time, delighted to bring a welcome ‘good news’ from Lebanon to the UK”
