Every month hundreds of galleries add newly available works by thousands of artists to the Artnet gallery network – and every week we shine the spotlight on an artist or exhibition you should know about. See what we have in store and inquire for more with just a click.

What do you want to know: Robert Fontaine Gallery currently presents the collective exhibition “Narrowat its Miami Beach location in the South of the Fifth Ward. On view through June 25, 2023, the exhibition features a wide range of artists, including Nick Gentry, Larry Clark, Corey K. Lamb, Louis Fratino, Henrietta Harris, Celia Hempton, Moyosore Martins and Hossein Edalatkhah, among others. Curated by Lander de Basterra, the exhibition includes a selection of paintings, sculptures and photographs centered on the themes of identity and intimacy, particularly in the realm of the personal and the domestic. Together, the works in the exhibition offer visitors the opportunity to explore a myriad of artistic perspectives and interpretations of inner worlds and that which is deeply familiar.

Why we love it: Intimacy is an infinitely complex and subjective subject, open to varying understandings from one person to another. Each work in the “Intimate” exhibition provides insight into its meaning and resonance for the artist, inherently generating a degree of intimacy between viewer and creator. Choices of pattern, color palette, and composition each individually take on expanded significance, offering insight into the artist’s unique perspective on intimacy, whether interpersonal, societal, or cultural. The hesitation between figuration and abstraction from one artist’s work to the next presented in the exhibition further invites larger and holistic discussions and considerations around individual identity and how intimacy as a concept contains a plurality of meanings.

According to the Gallery:Between brushstrokes and sculptures, an intimate symphony of identities unfolds, celebrating the beauty and resilience of our diverse histories. This art exhibition is a vibrant tapestry, weaving together the threads of love, desire and liberation, inviting everyone to witness the power of intimacies, where art becomes a mirror to our souls. – Curator, Lander of Basterra

“I think I’ve moved our gallery more times than I can blink…but this space is quite lovely, a boutique…the exhibit that Lander de Basterra has put together really takes into account not only the contemporary theme but also the place itself, as a central element of the showcase of the exhibition. It’s nice to work inside a space with original works that are harmonious and blend in with what the space will allow, there is a reward, or perhaps a sense of relief in working in a niche that creates barriers and opportunities.” – Gallery owner, Robert Fontaine
