The Hauser and Wirth mega-gallery has unveiled details of its new Paris location which will open this fall in a neoclassical style mansion.
Opening on October 14, just in time for the Paris+ fair, the gallery The first exhibition will feature new works by highly sought-after Los Angeles-based artist Henry Taylor, coinciding with a career survey of the artist’s work at the Whitney Museum in New York (October 4, 2023 to January 2024) . Taylor will spend the months of June and July working in Paris as part of a residency.
The Paris gallery is located in a private mansion dating from 1877, 26 bis rue François 1er, on the right bank of the Seine and near the Champs-Élysées.
The gallery also announced that Séverine Waelchli, a seasoned dealer who has worked at Sprüth Magers, Yvon Lambert and, more recently, Thaddaeus Ropac, will oversee its new Paris space, as well as its gallery in Monac.o, which opened in 2021. Waelchli has lived in Paris since 2005.
The gallery will establish “meaningful local partnerships to create an inclusive learning program that is integral to the presence in Paris,” she said in a statement.
