Look no further than The Exhibition: In Search of the Next Great Artist, a new series airing on MTV and the Smithsonian channel aiming to find the stars of the art of tomorrow. Seven emerging artists, including performance artist Jillian Mayer and painter Jennifer Warren, are competing for the main prize: the chance to show an “original work” at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, as well as a prize of $100,000. Museum director Melissa Chiu leads a rotating panel of art-world judges, including multidisciplinary artist Adam Pendleton, who set her sights on “commissions” created and inspired by works in the Hirshhorn collection. The trailer promises tension and excitement, with Chiu reflecting on one track and saying, “I think that’s a really big statement.” The show, hosted by MTV correspondent Dometi Pongo, will premiere on MTV on March 3.
