Turner Contemporary in Margate recently posted a job ad that caught the attention of the Kent seaside town’s most famous resident artist. We’re referring to Tracey Emin (of course) who brazenly asked on Instagram if she could apply for the position of Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, a heavy-handed occupation that involves “overseeing PR, marketing, social media and… digital communications” at the popular gallery. Emin asks on the gallery’s Insta post, “Can I do it?” (deadline is June 12). The artist opened TKE Studios earlier this year in the city, comprising an art school, exhibition space and studio complex which currently hosts ten resident artists including Ghazaleh Avarzamani from Tehran and Jon Key from Alabama.
Earlier this year, Emin told the Guardian: “It’s a great way to live and I want to have a great life. And it’s so beautiful: come here, talk to the artists, look at the art. Go home, see my cats, paint my pictures. Going to the sea, bathing in the freezing water, coming back, drying myself off, walking here, looking at someone’s pictures, talking with them about what they are doing. The next iteration of the Tracey Emin Artist Residency (TEAR) will be announced in 2024.
