On March 13, 2020, as theaters closed and so many of us were confined, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and The public theaterSuzan-Lori Parks, writer-in-residence, picked up her pen and her guitar and set about writing a play every day. What emerged was a breathtaking anthology of plays and songs that chronicle our collective experience and the hope and perseverance that has manifested itself throughout this unsettling year.
Performed in the intimate concert hall, Joe’s Pub, Play for the plague year is a theatrical concert featuring the work of Parks. It is both a personal story of a family’s daily life and a comprehensive account of all that we have faced as a city, nation and global community.
